WRO 2015: Test Exposure
The aim of the WRO 2015 Biennale is to give exposure to new media art experiments, individual explorations and approaches investigating the potential of art both to affect and to reflect emerging issues in culture.

Artists are invited to submit works that take on the risks of innovation, inquiry and imagination, using original observations, contemporary technologies and procedures in the process of creating inventive forms, interpreting the present and revising the notion of the future (which no longer seems to be a clearly defined project).

The WRO 2015 Test Exposure Biennale is a testing ground for creative, unconstrained investigations of art's potential to react to the present and to anticipate future challenges.

The WRO Biennale: about
The WRO Media Art Biennale is the major forum for new media art in Poland, and one of the leading international art events in Central Europe. Since its inception in 1989, WRO has been presenting art forms using new media for artistic expression and communication, exploring current creative territories and building a critical perspective toward emerging issues in culture, art, society and technology.

The previous edition of the WRO Biennale—WRO 2013 Pioneering Values Biennale—was held at 18 sites around the city of Wrocław: museums, galleries, art house cinemas, department stores, old factory halls and public space,  where the works of over 200 artists were shown. The exhibitions, concerts, performances, video projections, installations and conferences were attended by more than a thousand accredited guests and over 110,000 visitors. 9th International Biennial of Drawing Pilsen 2014, Open call

IX. International Biennial of Drawing Pilsen 2014

International Biennial of Drawing Pilsen is a unique art competition in a specific category monochromatic drawings. The competition takes place every even year. There is a limitation of the format, a standard size to the size of 100×70 cm. The exclusivity of the project, highlights the method of selection of works for the exhibition and awards.  Selection is carried out by an international jury, consisting of experts in drawing. In total there are 10 prizes awarded. The jury selects the main price Grand Prix and also artists who will receive a certificate highest quality Short list. Other prizes  awarded representatives of the City of Pilsen and representatives of partner organizations. This unique collection selected by a jury is fully exposed only in Pilsen. Within the Biennial are organized traveling exhibitions, which have a tradition since 2006. The intention of traveling exhibitions is a presentation of the unique project Biennial of Drawing Pilsen and an invitation for the upcoming competition year. The exhibition is composed of award-winning works selected by an international jury for the exhibition in Pilsen. The exhibition is completed by other selected works according to available space of the exhibition hall.

3) We accept maximum 5 works created after 2010
4) Payment of an entry fee of 50 EUR for foreign artists

Each drawing will be judged individually.
Sets of drawings are accepted only when drawings put together make maximum size 100 X 70 cm.

Delivery of Works
Entirely at the sender’s cost. If the foreign partner organizes shared handover of drawings,
it is possible to agree on individual terms of contract. Works should be labelled in correspondence with the application form. Works will be accepted non framed and without passe-partout. Each artist is responsible for safe wrapping of drawings in a firm package to ensure safe delivery.Drawings will be returned in same package.The drawings and the application form including the payment receipt must be sent by 31 May, 2014 (date of postal stamp is relevant).Works must be delivered free of all freight charges. A package burdened by any postal charges will not be accepted. The works of authors who will not pay the required fee of 50 EUR in time will not be included in the competition.

Promotion of the exhibition and the catalogue
a) The application for the participation in the exhibition allows the organizer to use free of charge replicas or videotapes of drawings submitted by participants for the promotion of the exhibition, for the catalog and for the promotion of the Biennial of Drawing Pilsen as a part of a program of European Capital of Culture Pilsen 2015.
b) Authors of the awarded works agree in advance that their works may be included
in a collection which will be displayed in some European and other countries.
The works will be returned after these exhibitions.
c) The organizer will publish a catalogue with replicas of the exhibited works.
Each artist whose works will be exhibited is entitled for inclusion in the catalogue with the reproduction of one of his/her works and the basic personal data. (S)he will also receive one free issue of the catalogue.
Return of Works
Works will be returned to the authors at the organizer’s cost.
Selection of Exhibits
Works submitted by participants will be selected by an international jury
with regard to their artistic and spatial qualities and on the basis of meeting the terms of participation.
Prizes
Works exhibited at the 9th International Biennial of Drawing Pilsen 2014
will be judged by a qualified international jury. This jury will also award the Grand Prix.

David Elliott chose the title of the IV Moscow International Biennale for Young Art A Time for Dreams by rephrasing the famous "I have a dream" speech by Martin Luther King. With this title, the curator emphasizes the chronic instability of our time and the acute need for the young generation to have dreams, hopes and opportunities, to not blindly go with the flow but to invest their strength into the perfection of the world. A Time for Dreams will include the work of over a hundred artists under the age of 35 chosen from across the world. Focusing on both present and future, moving between concern with microcosms and universes, this exhibition will resound as a polyphony of individual perspectives interwoven by different aesthetic and cultural traditions. Just as in Martin Luther King's still unfulfilled dream, the dream of good art, however it is made and wherever it comes from, has to be rooted in truth, ethics and belief in life.

Works submitted to the Biennale may be those of Russian or foreign artists of the new generation, working in the field of contemporary art with the latest strategies, concepts, and techniques (individual, collective, or as part of curatorial projects). Artists of the new generation are defined as those whose age at the time of the opening of the Biennale does not exceed 35 years. The right to apply for participation in the Biennale is limited to the authors of projects (artists and curators in the case of a curatorial project). Applications for the strategic projects of the Biennale for curators (curator groups) are received regardless of financial means. The application process is free. Authors and curators will not receive payment. The artistic director of the biennale will consider all applications and compile a selection of participants in the Biennale.

Institutions are invited to collaborate and young artists and curators to participate.

The second edition of the Istanbul Design Biennial will be realized between 18 October and 14 December 2014 by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV), and will comprise a wide range of events, workshops, conferences and screenings centered around its exhibitions program. Under the overarching title The Future Is Not What It Used To Be, the Biennial's curator, Zoë Ryan, revisits the manifesto as a platform and catalyst for critical thinking in design. The biennial asks, how can we reclaim the manifesto for the 21st century and beyond, not only in the production of texts, but through actions, services, provocations, or objects and seize the potential to incite inventive outcomes? As a platform for generating new ideas, the biennial invites submissions for contemporary manifestos that explore the complex role of design in today's society.

Istanbul Design Biennial explores a cross section of fields, from urban design (environmental, urban and regional planning) to architecture, photography, industrial, graphic, fashion, textile and interaction design, and all related creative fields. There are therefore no disciplinary or geographic limitations to the projects that can be submitted for inclusion in the Biennial.

Andreas Angelidakis: Crash Pad

Crash Pad by Andreas Angelidakis is the first commissioned work of the 8th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art. The room installation opens on January 25, 2014, as a preliminary statement of the 8th Berlin Biennale.

With Crash Pad Angelidakis creates a multi-purpose room with a library in the front building of KW Institute for Contemporary Art, drawing upon the idea of the 19th century salon as a setting for cultural and political conversations. The installation reflects the two conflicting systems that modernized Greece in the 19th century: The Europeanized Greek diaspora (educated in Germany, France and England and influenced by the invention of antiquity there) and the peasant guerrilla fighters under general Theodoros Kolokotronis. Crash Pad also refers to the first bankruptcy of modern Greece in 1893, which brought about a predecessor of the International Monetary Fund, put in place by France, England and Germany in order to supervise the debt of Greece.

Crash Pad offers a space for events, discussion and exchange within the 8th Berlin Biennale, as well as a place for contemplation and exchange for the traveling artists arriving at KW: A domesticated ruin and a thank-you note from a Norwegian-Greek architect to the German idea of antiquity.

Besides the Crash Pad and KW Institute for Contemporary Art, the 8th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art takes place at Haus am Waldsee and Museen Dahlem - Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (Dahlem Museums - National Museums in Berlin). Thus for its 8th edition, the Berlin Biennale is collaborating with spaces already dedicated to art and to culture, establishing a refreshing cartography of the city, which will take us to parts of town unexplored by previous editions of the Berlin Biennale.

Both Haus am Waldsee and Museen Dahlem are extremely important landmarks in the city's cultural composition of the mid- to late 20th century; Museen Dahlem for having hosted the collections of art of West Berlin and now the house of three museums (Ethnologisches Museum, Museum für Asiatische Kunst and Museum Europäischer Kulturen); and Haus am Waldsee for rising to prominence since 1946 as one of the main venues for contemporary art. Since the 1990s, however, there has been a concentration of culture in Berlin-Mitte, a gradual but significant shift in the city's composition. It is very exciting for us to be able to collaborate with these two essential institutions, and imperative for the Berlin Biennale, in 2014, to show that the city has a broader cartography than usually imagined, if not engaged with.

The 8th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art will bring together a range of local and international artistic positions that explore the intersection between larger historical narratives and individuals' lives. Thus, the 8th Berlin Biennale aims to counterpoise the empirical and the authoritative approaches to history and historical becoming. The research for the 8th Berlin Biennale is structured along three speculative approaches toward the city of Berlin: in its relationship to the built environment, in its relationship to citizenship, and in its relationship to labor. Another focus lies on ways in which the 18th and 19th century Berlin is contemplated within our current cultural landscape. The 8th Berlin Biennale will open its doors to the public on May 28, 2014.
