ANTI – Contemporary Art Festival is an international contemporary arts festival presenting site-specific works made for public space in Kuopio, Finland. ANTI presents live, sonic, visual and text-based art from today’s most exciting and innovative artists. A truly international festival and Finland’s foremost presenter of Live Art, ANTI is a meeting place for artists and audiences fascinated by how art shapes the spaces of everyday life.
In September 2015 ANTI Festival will collaborate with the Kuopio Marathon to present a unique series of cultural events created in response to the race. We invite proposals for projects that engage with one or more of the following areas:
·      Duration, longevity and time; the long and short of time-based activities
·      Sport and culture, sporting culture, cultural sport
·      The body and endurance – expanded ideas of endurance: political, social, cultural forms of endured activity; the social agency of endurance
·      The quantified self: fitness culture, technology and performance
·      The race, racing and competitive frameworks
·      Participation and mass events – the individual and the many
·      The enthusiast and the amateur: the cultural agency of the ‘trained’ every-person
·      Topographic trajectories and spatial intervention: running/reading/using the city
ANTI is a site-specific festival – we do not show projects in traditional cultural spaces, thus projects have a direct relationship with the spaces and places they are shown in. When proposing a project please make it clear where your project would ideally be located, and why. The 2015 festival will take place in and round the Kuopio Marathon – projects are imagined to establish a number of relationships with the race itself; some may engage directly with the event while others might happen in parallel to it etc.
The Kuopio Marathon was first held in 1998. 2015 will see around 2,500 runners take part. The event comprises a mix of distances – full marathon, half marathon, 10K (walk or run) and a series of races for children. The events takes place across the 4th and 5th of September. The proposal process
All proposals must be sent using this electronic form (https://anti.gruppo.fi/online-applications/index.php/survey/index/sid/426793/lang/en) and written in English. The form allows a link to be made to online documentation of previous work and for applicants to attach a CV and max three supporting images. Proposals that do not strictly conform to these guidelines will not be considered.

ANTI – Contemporary Art Festival is an international contemporary arts festival presenting site-specific works made for public space in Kuopio, Finland. We are looking for innovative and exciting live art works for children and young adults to be presented at ANTI Festival 23-28 September 2014. We are especially keen to receive proposals for projects where young people have a participatory or collaborative role in the work. All works will be presented to a mixed, public audience.

Projects may take any form – lasting 30 minutes or many weeks, for an audience of one or many. Please note ANTI is a site-specific festival – we do not show projects in traditional cultural spaces, thus projects have a direct relationship with the spaces and places they are shown in. When proposing a project please make it clear where your project would ideally be located, and why.

Basak Senova -the curator of Helsinki Photography Biennial 2014

Basak Senova  was appointed for a curator of Helsinki Photography Biennial  ( 27 March - 4 May 2014)

Helsinki Photography Biennial is a series of events on photo/lens-based contemporary art, organized every two years in the spring by Union of Artist Photographers in Finland. HPB14 is produced by Union of Artist Photographers / Photographic Gallery Hippolyte in collaboration with The Finnish Museum of Photography.

Basak Senova is a curator and designer based in Istanbul. She has been writing on art, technology and media, initiating and developing projects and curating exhibitions since 1995. Senova studied Literature and Graphic Design (MFA in Graphic Design and Ph.D. in Art, Design and Architecture at Bilkent University) and attended the 7th Curatorial Training Programme of Stichting De Appel, Amsterdam.She was the curator of the Pavilion of Turkey at the 53rd Venice Biennale (2009). She lectured as assistant professor at the Faculty of Communication, Kadir Has University, Istanbul (2006-2010) and is now teaching at Koç University. Currently, she co-curates UNCOVERED (2010–2013) project in Cyprus with Pavlina Paraskevaidou and the 2nd Biennial of Contemporary Art, D-0 ARK Underground (2013) in Bosnia and Herzegovina with Branko Franceschi.
For HPB14, Basak Senova addresses the theme of Ecological Fallacy. In statistics, ecological fallacy describes errors due to performing analyses on aggregate data when trying to reach conclusions on the individual units. Errors occur in part from spatial aggregation. In this context, the biennial would like to investigate fallacies of ecological knowledge. Therefore, the biennial seeks correlated artistic approaches and perspectives as a way of producing and processing evident critical, social and cultural discourses on these fallacies. Throughout the course of this process, archives will be the essential tool of the biennial. In this way, HPB14 will foster collaborative connections between ecological data and photography-based archives.
Furthermore, Basak Senova has invited Branko Franceschi (Zagreb) to co-curate a special section for the biennial.

Organising openness in artistic, curatorial and institutional practices
29th–30th August 2013

Checkpoint Helsinki and Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma organise a two-day seminar to explore the concept and practices of openness in producing and mediating contemporary art. Openness is a central concept according to which Checkpoint Helsinki, Kiasma and many other organisations function and is frequently used to describe how we should relate to each other. We are Open! -seminar will provide ideas about how openness can be applied in the work of artists, curators and institutions.

Ganzeer (artist, Egypt, part of On the Move: Political Strategies in Art programme of HIAP)

On Thursday the 29th of August the invited artists and curators present their talks in three thematic sessions. The topic of openness is discussed within the frameworks of knowledge production, curating, collaborative working methods, public space and audience. Opening speech will be at 10:30 and the programme at Kiasma will finish at 17:00. After the talks everyone is invited to a casual evening gathering at 19:00 in Gallery Augusta (Suomenlinna).

On the second day, Friday the 30th of August, the audience and the speakers have a possibility to delve into the themes of the first day in the form of a facilitated open space workshop and find ways to apply the topics of the first day to their own practices and needs. The workshop will start at 10:00 and finish at 16:00. In June 2012 Checkpoint Helsinki organised a previous open space workshop, where more than a hundred art professionals discussed the needs of the art field and the activities of Checkpoint Helsinki. Checkpoint Helsinki aims to continue working as a platform for artists, curators and other art professionals to discuss and network.

Checkpoint Helsinki is a new, non-profit art organisation that commissions and produces artworks and projects by emerging international artists. We are Open! seminar, organised in collaboration with Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, is part of the pilot year programme of Checkpoint Helsinki. Checkpoint Helsinki's first commission is titled Chimney Project and it can be seen in the city space during the Helsinki Festival, during the last week of August.
