Recognised as one of the most globalised meeting points in the art world today, Art Dubai places an emphasis on maintaining its intimate, human scale while foregrounding quality and diversity. In 2013, Art Dubai welcomed 25,000 visitors–including 75 international museums groups–and hosted 75 galleries from 30 countries.The eighth edition of Art Dubai takes place March 19-22, 2014, at Madinat Jumeirah. Besides the gallery halls, the fair's extensive programme will include commissioned projects and performances, artists' and curators' residencies, educational workshops, the unveiling of works by the winners of the annual The Abraaj Group Art Prize and the critically acclaimed Global Art Forum. Art Dubai is part of Art Week, an umbrella initiative that highlights the plethora of exhibitions, projects and events that now coincide with the fair each March, the most dynamic time in the UAE’s cultural calendar. Special events include Design Days Dubai, the only fair in Asia dedicated to product and furniture design; Sikka, the fair run by Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) and dedicated to new work by UAE-based artists; and Galleries Nights, featuring 40 new exhibitions across Al Quoz and the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC); plus other projects, museum shows and major events throughout the Emirates, Qatar and the Gulf.

The eighth edition of the fair—featuring more than 80 galleries from 35 countries, for the first time now includes three distinct gallery programmes: Contemporary, Modern and Marker, which in 2014 takes Central Asia and the Caucasus as its theme and is curated by the artists Slavs and Tatars. The inaugural edition of Art Dubai Modern includes 11 galleries presenting a series of solo and two-person booth exhibitions,devoted to modern masters from the Middle East and South Asia.
This new programme is developed with a group of eminent historians and curators in the field, and features artists such as Hamed Abdalla (Karim Francis, Cairo); Rasheed Aareen (Grosvenor Gallery, London); Ardeshir Mohasses (Shirin Gallery, Tehran/New York); Michel Basbous (Agial Art Gallery, Beirut) among others.Read the full list of participating artists and galleries in Modern here:
